MyGasTips is available to registered GasTips Members only. Once you "Join" GasTips, you will be able to sign up for numerous services including receiving price alert notices and GasTips news, creating your own custom communities, defining the "tips" you wish to display and the order in which to display them, and creating your own customized tip entry form.

MyPersonal Settings

When you first became a GasTips member, we asked you for your email address and a nickname. We used your email address to send you your personal GasTips password, which you now use each time you "Login" to GasTips as a registered member. The nickname you selected appears next to any tips you contribute to GasTips.

MyPersonal Settings allows you to change your email address, nickname and password. In addition, you can subscribe or unsubscribe to several other services that are offered only to GasTips members.

Email Address: The email address we currently have on file for you is displayed here. If your email address has changed, please enter the new address here. This is a required field.

Nickname: Your current nickname is displayed here. You can change it if you wish. This field is required.

Price Alerts: When prices begin to rise in your region, a flashing red arrow appears on the GasTips web site. If you wish us to notify you by email when this condition occurs, click the box next to "I wish to subscribe to the price alerts service". You can specify how soon after this "price alert" condition begins that you wish to be notified (from 1 - 48 hours). You will receive no more than one email alert every 48 hours. Enter your preference in the statement: "I wish to be alerted __ hours after the start of the alert condition."

Opt-In Email Updates: We occasionally have news that we would like to share with you. Perhaps we have added new features to the site that we think would interest you. Or we are running a GasTips contest we want you to know about. If you subscribe to this service, we will send you no more than 2 email messages each month. You can unsubscribe from this service at any time. For further information about privacy, please see our Legal page.

Current Password: Enter your current GasTips password. This field is required.

New Password: If you wish to change your password, enter your new GasTips password here.

Repeat New Password: Re-enter your new GasTips password for verification.

MyCommunities

This function allows you to create new communities, and edit and delete these communities. Each MyCommunity you create will be a grouping of one or more of the existing GasTips communities in your region. You can also select the stations you wish to display price tips for in the MyCommunity you create. In order for you to easily access the MyCommunities that you create, they will be listed under the existing GasTips communities, directly below the Regional Map.

Add or Edit MyCommunities: The first time you use MyCommunities, you will go directly to the Add/Edit MyCommunities screen, so that you can create your first MyCommunity. Once you have defined a MyCommunity, subsequent visits to MyCommunities will take you to a listing of your existing MyCommunities. To modify an existing MyCommunity, click on the EDIT button. To create a new MyCommunity, click on "Add a new MyCommunity". In both cases, you will be presented with a screen that allows you to enter the following information:

MyCommunity Name: Enter the name you wish to give to this MyCommunity. This is a required field.

Select one or more [Your Region's] Communities to include in this MyCommunity: All the existing GasTips communities in your region are listed here. Select the ones you wish to include in this MyCommunity.

The following two fields are only needed if you do not want to display all the price tips that will normally be displayed in your customized MyCommunity.

Only display tips for locations containing any of the following words or phrases. (Separate multiple entries with commas.): If you want to only display tips from a select group of stations in the MyCommunity you have created, enter the location words or phrases here.

MyStations

MyStations is a very useful feature for the tipster. If you are a frequent tipster who supplies tips for a regular group of gas stations, you can set up your own customized tip entry form with up to 20 different stations as the defaults. Once you have done this, you can ask for your customized stations at the price input form the next time you put in gas prices. You can also print this form to take with you when you're collecting prices.

Entering the stations is identical to the way you enter tips, with the exception that price is not included. Enter the Community, Vendor and Location of up to 20 stations, and press the Submit button at the end of the form.

MyFilters

MyFilters allows you to customize the way tips are displayed in all the communities in GasTips, including the ones you create yourself (MyCommunities).

Default Sort Order: You can select the order in which you wish the tips to be displayed. Select one of the options from the drop box. You can temporarily override this sort order at any time when you are actually displaying tips by clicking on the column title you wish to sort by (ie: Location, Price, Vendor, Time, Submitter).

Vendors to exclude: The vendors in your GasTips region are listed here. Check the ones you don't want to display tips for.

Ignore tips from anonymous tipsters? Some people consider tips submitted by "anonymous" users to be less reliable than those that come from registered GasTips members. If you only want to display tips from registered members, check this box.

Ignore tips older than _ hours/days: Some communities receive many tips, while others do not. When you display tips for a community, you only see tips which we consider to be "current." If you wish to display "older" tips, you can click on "Click here for older tips." found under the Community tip listing. If you decide that you want to display fewer tips on your Community pages, fill these fields to ensure that only tips entered before that "cutoff" will be displayed.
